We Tried It: Kardashian-Jenner Approved Products, from the Waist Trainer to Butt Plumping Cream
Who Tried It: Christina Baez, Photo Editor
Why I Tried It: The Kardashians have achieved total saturation on every level, from beauty to fashion to lifestyle (to Oreo organization). I was curious how close I could come to achieving Kardashianirvana by using all of their “recommended” products — one from each sister.
What I Tried: PreMadonna Waist Trainer (Kim), Lyfe Tea Teatox (Kourtney), Philosophy Resurface Microdelivery Dual-Phase Peel, Pure Leef Butt Plumping Cream (Kylie), Express Smile Teeth Whitening Kit (Khloé), and Estée Lauder lipstick (Kendall).
Level of Difficulty: Trying these things was easy and fun, but sorry, they’re on a level that may be impossible to achieve.

Kim Kardashian — PreMadonna Waist Trainer
If the Kardashians have one signature Insta move, it’s the waist trainer. When she isn’t pregnant, Kim is all about her curves — and spends a lot of Instagram real estate on her PreMadonna waist trainer. I decided if I was going to live my week as a Kardashian, this was a must-have item.
When I opened the box, I was alarmed: It looked so small and was not that stretchy. After about a 10 minute struggle, I was able to get it on. Getting it on was a workout within itself (bonus Kardashian points!) The trainer comes with three small rows of hooks, kind of like a bra. On the widest setting, it was definitely tight, but not uncomfortable, and wearable under my clothes without being noticeable.
The first day I wore my trainer to work I didn’t feel too self-conscious. I wore layers and hoped no one hugged me or else they might feel it under my clothes. I did like that my posture was greatly enhanced by the trainer and since everything, by everything I mean my gut, was pushed in, I looked slimmer. Lunch was a challenge, because I couldn’t grasp the idea of me squeezing much else into my already compressed belly. I ate something small and hoped for the best. A few hours before my workday was over, I couldn’t handle the pressure anymore and ended up taking it off. I’m not sure how long Kim wears her trainer, but I think my eight hours was a good effort for my first day.
Day 2 wasn’t as tough as day 1. I was able to get my trainer on a little faster (say, eight minutes?). The real triumph was that I kept it on all day! I put it on shortly after I woke up and took it off when I got home after work. I felt accomplished. The rest of the week went by smoothly. I kept using it after my week and was on the middle hooks after two weeks.
Kourtney Kardashian — Lyfe Tea
Kourtney is usually known for being the healthier sister. In season 10, episode 1016 of Keeping Up With the Kardashians she made a comment about healthy foods, stating “[it’s a] good for you thing, it’s not really about the taste.” That’s definitely not a quote I could live by, but thankfully I didn’t have to worry about that with this tea.
The tea is a detox, or tea-tox if you will (I guess I will), and it tasted good enough that I could drink it straight, though you can add milk or honey. I opted for the 14-day variation, which includes two teas a day: The Morning Skinny Tea and The Evening Tea. The tea comes loose in its packaging, but they threw in tea bags that I’d keep prepped with the loose leaves.
The morning formula is meant to jumpstart your metabolism — I drank it every morning on an empty stomach as soon as I woke up after prepping a tea bag the night before. The evening tea has more of a detox and calming effect that are effective, but prepare yourself: several of the ingredients have laxative properties. During my 14-day trial, I detoxed (if you catch my drift) every morning, evening and a couple of times in between. Not a day went by that I didn’t detox at least twice. I knew what I signed up for when I got the tea, but I didn’t think I was going to detox quite so often!
The tea did curb my appetite as it said it would, but I couldn’t help thinking: Was it a mental thing? Did I not want to eat much because I didn’t want to detox right after? Does Kourtney detox this much while drinking these? Is she detoxing right now? Okay, that last one was over the top, but my thoughts I had lots of time to have weird thoughts in all that time I wasn’t eating. That, along with wearing my waist trainer, meant my appetite went down. I thought twice about snacking on foods and eating huge meals. At the end of my 14 days I lost 3 pounds. I was ecstatic. I wasn’t working out, I just drank my teas, and detoxed some weight away. I can’t wait to do another 14-day run.

Khloé Kardashian — Express Smile Teeth Whitening Kit
Embodying a Kardashian isn’t only about focusing on my outer appearance. The inside counts too. In this case, I’m talking about my teeth, and taking my cues from Khloé.
The Express Smile kit comes with teeth trays, whitening gel (all natural and FDA regulated) and a LED light. When I first read the instructions it seemed like prepping the kit would be tedious: You have to boil some water, insert your teeth trays then put them in your mouth so they can mold to the shape of your teeth. After completing this I realized the whole 10 minutes it took was not tedious but rather entertaining. I took pleasure in making a mold of my teeth; it made me feel artsy.
Next, you line your mold with a thin line of gel, but exactly how does one measure thin? I applied what I believed to be thin enough to get the job done, quickly dried my teeth with a napkin and placed the trays on. Then came the fun part: the LED light, which is small enough to enter your mouth and stay in place for the duration of your treatment.
Within two minutes I knew my thin wasn’t thin enough. One of my bottom teeth felt somewhat sensitive to the gel and my gums had gel on them as well. The experience had me feeling a bit frazzled so I decided to take the trays out. My gums were white and while I rinsed my mouth out with water I had a sudden fear that I may have burned my gums with the light. (Thinking back on it, that was an absolutely ridiculous thought.)
After rinsing my mouth thoroughly, everything was back to normal. I waited until the next day to attempt my whitening treatment for the second time. This time I was careful to use a thinner line of gel. After a deep breath I inserted the trays into my mouth and everything seemed normal. I put the LED light in and turned it on. So far so good. I made it past my previous two-minute mark and decided I was in it for the long haul, which was 15 minutes of usage for 10-14 consecutive days.
After two weeks of consecutive usage my teeth were noticeably lighter. Throughout the process I did feel slight sensitivity on my bottom teeth, but it was bearable, especially when I saw my Kardashian-level results.
Kylie Jenner — Pure Leef Butt Plumping Cream
Kylie attributes her “on fleek” curves to this cream, explaining that the cream is used to accentuate and maintain your curves. I’m pretty proud of my bottom (and well aware that the claims are likely nonsense), but I figured it couldn’t hurt to try. (I’m very dedicated to my craft.)
The cream is made of all natural ingredients, which made me comfortable trying it out, and though it does have a faint smell to it, you can’t smell it once you apply it, nor does stick to your clothes. The instructions state that you should apply the cream twice a day, in the morning and at night.
I first applied it in the morning. Within a few minutes I began to feel a tingly sensation. Before I knew it my bottom felt minty. I automatically took this as a sign that the magic of the cream is sinking in. The magical, minty sensation doesn’t last long. After about 10 minutes it’s gone. There isn’t any discomfort afterwards, no slimy or sticky bottom. So I was able to go about my day regularly.
I used the cream regularly for two weeks and didn’t see much of a difference. I’ll continue applying regularly since the instructions state it takes about a month to see a change.

Kendall Jenner — Estée Lauder “Restless”
Part of being a Kardashian or Jenner is being able to display confidence. For me a great shade of lipstick definitely boosts my confidence a couple of notches. What better shade of lipstick to wear to manifest my inner sister than one made from Kendall? I went with her “Restless” color, which is a mix of poppy and orange — a great shade to rock during the day or night. The brightness of it makes it a bit of a statement color. Tapping into my inner supermodel-in-training I walked out of the door feeling poised. The lipstick has a matte finish, which I love. It didn’t dry my lips like some other brands, but rather left a smooth finish. I was pleasantly surprised that it stayed on most of the day; I only reapplied after lunch. Restless is definitely a color I will continue to wear; now I just have to wait for the calls from Chanel and Givenchy to come in.
Kris Jenner — Philosophy Resurface Microdelivery Dual-Phase Peel
I couldn’t end my week without trying something by Kardashian-Jenner matriarch, Kris. I decided to trust her recommendation of Philosophy skincare products. I used both the Philosophy Purity Made Simple One-Step Facial Cleanser and the brand’s Microdelivery Dual-Phase Peel. This isn’t just a face wash, this is the face wash. It’s a 3-step process that has left my face feeling fresh and silky soft.
The first step is to wash your face. I used Philosophy’s Purity Facial Cleanser, which doesn’t come with the Microdelivery Peel, but it’s best to use it as a first step. The cleanser is incredibly smooth and creamy. It has a light scent to it that isn’t strong enough for me to mind. This cleanser takes off all of my make-up, yet is extremely gentle on my skin.
After washing my face I used the Microdelivery Dual-Phase Peel, which comes in two small bottles. One bottle is the Vitamin C/Peptide Resurfacing Crystals that are supposed to rejuvenate and revitalize your skin as the Salicylic Activating Gel allows for more exfoliation and minimizes the appearance of lines, pores and wrinkles. The first step is to apply a teaspoon amount of the Resurfacing Crystals to your clean and dry skin. I massaged this in for the recommended 60 seconds, but was sure not to scrub since my skin can be sensitive. Following the crystals is the Acid Activating Gel. I massaged a big teaspoon amount on top of the crystals. As I massaged it in, I began to feel a warming sensation and the gel began to form into white foam. This is completely normal. It’s the indication that the gel is activated. I massaged it in for 3 minutes; you can also let it sit, this step allows the vitamin C to infuse into your skin. Once completed my skin felt so fresh and clean. I continued using the facial cleanser daily and resorted to using the microdelivery peel once a week. Since using Philosophy, my face has never felt softer or smoother. I now have that Kardashian glow.
Verdict: Taking recommendations from the Kardashain Krew may not have made me an official member of the family, but it did give me insight on how much effort is put into being one. Although each product was fairly easy to use on its own, once you try to do them all at the same time it does get overwhelming. In the end I like to think I succeeded. I gave my best attempt to try their recommendations from head to toe — well not exactly to toe since I couldn’t get my hands on the Yeezy Boost 350. Maybe I can review those next time … looking at you Kanye. In the meantime, I hope I made the Kardashians proud, and I’m looking forward to reviewing their future recommendations.
