Sex tape blackmail is untrue, Shakira and Gerard Pique say
Reports out of South America and Europe allege that Shakira and Gerard Pique are the targets of a blackmail plot related to a sex tape.
Gerard Pique and Shakira have denied claims they are being blackmailed over a sex video by a former employee.
Spanish newspaper el Diario Vasco reported that the Barcelona star and his Colombian superstar wife have been threatened with the dissemination of an intimate video of the pair if they don’t part with a significant sum of hush money.
The reports are also now circling around Shakira’s native South America, but a source close to the star told the Mirror: “This is a very random report and completely untrue.”
Pique’s agent has also denied the claims, but Spanish football is already facing a major blackmail case, with Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema the subject of an investigation into the attempted extortion of international teammate Mathieu Valbuena over another sex tape.

Blackmail is punishable by a serious jail term in Spain, according to article 243 of the penal code:
“Whoever, for profit, obliges someone through violence or intimidation to perform an act to the detriment of its assets or a third party, shall be punished with imprisonment of one to five years.”
Shakira, 38, met Pique, who is ten years her junior, when he appeared in her music video for the single Waka Waka (This Time for Africa), the official song for 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
The high-profile couple now have two sons, Milan, two, and Sasha, 11-months, who are often pictured watching their dad play football.

Pique left his native Spain to sign for Manchester United when he was just 16, in 2004. He made just 12 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils.
He spent a season on loan with La Liga side Real Zaragoza, before returning to Old Trafford for a final season in Manchester.
He left the club in 2008 to join Barcelona in a £5million deal. He has been a fixture in the side ever since, helping the team win the Champions League three times, and five La Liga titles.
With Spain he has also won the World Cup in 2010 in South Africa, and the European Championship two years later.
Mirror Sport has contacted Pique’s agent for comment and is awaiting a reply.
